Several United Church communities of faith have recently received grant approval through the Faithful Footprints program to financially support energy conservation and renewable energy building projects. Many of our current program participants have successfully completed their planned renovations and upgrades, while others have received their one-year post-project energy reports. Here are the latest project updates:

Grace-Westminister United Church (Saskatoon, SK)
St. Stephen’s College (Edmonton, AB)
Completed projects:
Knox United Church (Emo, ON)
Received a grant to re-insulate the main walls in its sanctuary; re-insulate, replace window and add exit door to its two small education rooms; re-insulate the walls and attic, and seal hatch in bathroom; replace two gas furnaces with ENERGYSTAR models; install two refrigerators, a commercial dishwasher, a water heater, and a mini-split heat pump; replace two ceiling fans; as well as enhance sanctuary lighting.
Little Current United Church (Little Current, ON)
Received a grant to replace its liter oil storage tanks and its oil-fired furnaces with with heat pumps a 55,000 BTW heat pump system with hot water coil for its sanctuary as well as install a new 200 amp electrical panel and a on-demand boiler.
Porcupine United Church (Porcupine, ON)
Received a grant to improve the exterior and interior insulation of its building including installing wool insulation, roof truss, and vapor barrier; as well as replace stove refrigerator, and dishwasher.
Port Wallis United Church (Dartmouth, NS)
Received a grant to install mini split heat pumps throughout the older sections of the building, which were previously serviced by baseboard hot water heating and oil fired boiler; replace two oil fired hot water boilers with an electric boiler; as well as replace oil fired domestic hot water heater with an electric heater.
St. John’s United Church (Moncton, NB)
Received a grant to upgrade the lighting within its building; replace exterior lighting to dusk-to-dawn LED fixtures; install three mini-splits in its soup kitchen/social hall; replace three doors; replace 11 basement windows and 12 basement window security grates; install two storm windows; as well as replace two damaged storm windows.

Carmen United Church (Sydney Mines, NS)
Received a grant to install heat pumps to offload dependence on its furnace.
A year following their projects, Carmen United reduced its source energy use intensity by 54%, total GHG emissions and total GHG emission intensity by 33.6%, energy costs by 49.5%, and energy costs intensity by 49.7%.
Harmony - St. Mark’s United Church (Richards Landing, ON)
Received a grant to install 2 heat pumps in its hall and sanctuary to offload dependence on its 2 energy efficient propane furnaces that were installed in 2021; install a low-speed high-volume fan in its sanctuary; replace emergency exit lights; and replace all lighting in building with LED bulbs as well as refurbish fluorescent fixtures to adapt to LED tubes.
A year following their projects, Harmony - St. Mark’s United reduced its source energy use intensity by 20.3%, total GHG emissions by 20.2%, and propane usage by 26.5%.
Harmony United Church (Brantford, ON)
Received a grant to replaced the majority of incandescent light fixtures and bulbs throughout the church building with LEDs; replace two gas furnaces with two new 112,000 BTU high efficiency gas furnaces; and replace its 1940,s Warden King 41000 BTU boiler, with two new Navien NCB200 boilers.
A year following their projects, Harmony United reduced its source energy use intensity by 15.6%, total GHG emissions by 28.8%, total GHG emission intensity by 28.6%, electricity usage by 25.9%, and natural gas usage by 29.2%.
