Many of our current program participants have successfully completed their planned renovations and upgrades, while others have received their one-year post-project energy reports. Here are the latest project updates:
Completed projects:
Carstairs United Church (Carstairs, AB)
Received a grant to install Energy Star windows on the North and West side of its building; install Energy Star natural gas water heater; caulk and seal windows and doors; replace light bulbs with LEDs; and install solar panels on rooftop with new subpanel.
First South United Church (Lunenburg, NS)
Received a grant to upgrade electrical panel; replace two basement windows; replace furnace and oil tank with heat pump; replace a wooden door with steel door; insulate basement and attic; caulk windows and doors; install LED lights in kitchen and choir loft; and replace hot water tank.
Merigomish United Church (Merigomish, NS)
Received a grant to upgrade its electrical panel; install heat pump and insulate entrance doors in its lower hall; caulk windows; replace fridge with new energy efficient model; replace water heater and blanket.
St. John’s United Church (Cardinal, ON)
Received a grant to remove stain glass window on the East side of its building and a louvered window in its gymnasium, and replace with brick; install three reversible circulating ceiling fans and insulated doors in its sanctuary; and replace six electric motors and rebuild all cages on the units.
Project energy results:
First United Church (Bathurst, NB)
Received a grant to replace a refrigerator and dishwasher; and install two heat pumps. A year following their projects, First United reduced its source energy use intensity by 20%, total GHG emissions by 19.2%, total GHG emission intensity by 20%, energy costs by 15.5%, electricity usage by 19.9%.
